How To Drink While Pregnant

This may sound strange, but the worst thing about being pregnant is not being able to drink.

Seriously. Think about the last time you drank.

BBQ? Have a Corona.
Brunch? Giggles with champagne and orange juice.
Lunch? Wake up and smell the Espresso Martini.
Dinner? Oh yeaaaa, there’s that nice wee glass of red wine I was thinking about.
Movies? Yes, you can drink and eat dinner at the movies now.
Bowling? Oi! Where’s the beer?!
A boat? Ay, Ay, Captain Morgan and ginger beer mix.
The park? A nice strawberry cider please?
Birthday party? Jager bomb anyone?

Drinking occasions are everywhere. So when you are in the first three months of your pregnancy, it’s really hard trying to dodge these kind of events. When I was about 8 weeks pregnant I had to go my friend’s BBQ / beer pong party (“had to” is a bit of an exaggeration, more like I-wanted-to-go-but-wished-I-could-drink). I told everyone I was taking antibiotics so I couldn’t drink, they knew straight away! Probably because, Number 1, I love drinking games, and Number 2, whenever I’m at a party I typically have a drink in my hand (not that I’m an alcoholic or anything, I just love to mingle and have cocktails).

SO, when I came across Seedlip at Pizza Express I was very, very pleasantly surprised. The first non-alcoholic spirit….it tastes good….and it looks like you’re drinking a gin n’ tonic. Plus I LOVE pizza, so a night of homemade-esque pizza and a drink that did not give me a hangover = A+.

Had a surprisingly healthy night with @seedlipdrinks & @pizzaexpress don’t let the refreshingly tasty and sparkly drinks fool you – this is non-alcoholic …shhhhhhhh I’m not preggers either! [JOKES] there is no flacking way I would have another bump on me right now, I’m barely surviving the first one . But my point is, this drink would be PURfect with a bump, its classy, it tastes YUM and it looks like a G&T, especially in the early stages when you have to hide it from co-workers. ‍ I remember the first time around I told everyone I was taking anti-biotics so I couldn’t drink – they weren’t having it and knew right away, I wouldn’t let anti-biotics stop me from drinking! Not to mention, I am very impressed by the owner, Ben, of Seedlip.

The story is great….

In a nutshell, Ben found a book on called The Art of Distillation published in London in 1651, and  decided to carry on his family’s 300 year old farming ancestry and change the way the world drinks.  He by no means wants people to stop drinking but he wants to give people the choice to have a nice non-alcoholic drink during the many drinking occasions I mentioned above.

I am totally on board with this idea. I feel the pressure to drink on many occasions and would love the option to have a Seedlip rather than feel a crap hangover in the morning. Especially as a mum who is unable to handle hangovers anymore – if you’re a mum you know what I mean – the 6am wake up, changing of the nappy ordeal, the trying to get them to eat breakfast ordeal and then the rest of the day trying to manage a pounding headache and a screaming child (both happy and sad tears), it feels like World World II. If only there was a Seedlip around at the pub night before even just to alternate between a gin and a Seedlip, that would at least ease the hangover.
